Sebb’s: Glasgow’s Own La La Land— where Fire meets Flavour and Cocktails Hit All the Right Notes
If Sebastian and Mia from La La Land had ditched LA for Glasgow, you know they’d be sipping cocktails at Sebb’s. Why? Because this place is basically the underground jazz bar of your cinematic dreams, minus Ryan Gosling’s existential monologues about “saving jazz”. Instead, you get fire-cooked feasts, smooth vinyl tunes, and an atmosphere that makes you want to release your inner Sade. Tucked away beneath Glasgow’s Merchant City, Sebb’s is a place where industrial chic meets effortless cool. Whether you’re here for a laid-back dinner, vinyl-spun beats, or vibes, this Subterranean hotspot will be your latest obsession!
Walking into Sebb’s feels like stepping into a secret hideaway, where the exposed brick walls, plush booth seating, and glowing red tiles set the scene for an intimate yet buzzing night out. There’s something effortlessly cool about it— like the kind of place where you’d expect to find a jazz legend sipping a Negroni in the corner. The arched brick ceiling gives it a hidden underground vault vibe, while the sleek red tiles add just the right amount of glam!
Let’s talk food— because Sebb’s, the kitchen is literally on fire! Head Chef Danny Carruthers takes things up a notch with open-flame cooking. This menu is all about bold, smoky flavours with dishes that feel unexpected, and exciting. I couldn’t help but have the pakora with ‘Lord of the Hundreds’ cheese and sharp piccalilli. If Sebb’s were a rom-com, the pakora would be the charming side character, you didn’t expect to fall for but you now can’t stop thinking about. Light, crunchy, and packed with flavour, this pakora is something you don’t want to miss! Expect grilled chicken wings with fermented hot sauce and ranch (£8), lamb skewers with garlic lamb (£7), and grilled cauliflowers, hummus, rayu, and pine nuts— these are some of my menu highlights.
At Sebb’s, the cocktail menu is bold, creative, and packed with unexpected twists and flavours that keep things interesting! Whether it’s a smoky Old Fashioned with a miso-infused twist or a Negroni, the cocktails here will make you want to come back time after time. The cherry sour was a drink highlight for me; with lemon meringue, cherry vodka, and maraschino, it was a true delight. This cocktail combines zesty lemon with a rich, creamy texture, topped off with a sweet meringue foam. It was both light and refreshing!
With all this being said, Sebb’s definitely isn’t just another bar— it’s a hidden gem that feels like a secret, but one too good not to share. It’s the kind of place that’s laid back but full of energy, stylish but not pretentious. Whether you come for the food, the drinks, or to soak up the ambiance, Sebb’s is the place you won’t be able to stop raving about! You never know, maybe you’ll meet your Sebastian here!
